The
Brief.
Where fashion meets activewear, boutique People Like Us were set to open their second physical store in Auckland's premier fashion district Newmarket.
Our
Solution.
Focusing on the fashion, we crafted a clean and minimalist space, drawing the customer’s eye in with the bold feature wall in the brand's statement ultramarine blue and small pops of bright colours dotted throughout.
Clever use of unusual and innovative material choices became a key feature of our concept, from practical to beautiful, linking fashion to the outdoors. Wetsuit material for the changing room curtains and concrete textures throughout gave the space a unique and individual feel.
The curved wall became a signature feature, the focal point of the retail space. By using unexpected materials, such as the PVC piping offcuts for the wall and recladding the existing counter in concrete render, we added layers of texture and interest to the space.
Retail fixtures were custom designed with local craftsmen PowerSurge, to ensure easy customer navigation and create a bespoke mood & feel. Bringing in industrial metal gave this store a different flavour and its own unique twist to the previous.
Making sure that the space flowed seamlessly, every inch, curve, corner and join was carefully considered with the customer's experience of the store front of mind.
We designed a store where the fashion is just as important as functionality, using lighting from Lightplan to coax you through the space; from bright spotlights in the main retail space that highlight the garments on rack, to warmer soft lights in the changing rooms to ensure the shopper feels confident in whatever they wear – adding pops of neon to draw the eye to the oh-so-important accessories wall.
With a prime location on Teed Street, People Like Us were looking to create an enticing and approachable retail experience with street appeal. Building on elements of the brand identity set by their first store, we collaborated closely with the retailer to concept a modern space that you'd be eager to step foot into.
